The Plough a bar and restaurant, just outside the “gate” into the town centre, near the playhouse, is good and has up to date décor. It has bar and restaurant menus.

Prima Deli, a café on the market square, excellent coffee, Italian snacks and antipasti. Not really a restaurant but good for a quick bite.

The John Bull. Our Local. Go half way down the gravel drive and through the gate in the fence on your left. Go straight down hill and you will see the pub on your left. Selection of real ales and no frills.

The Ship, Low Newton by the Sea, is a great stop on a coastal walk. You cannot book, but once you get a table you’ll not want to leave! They brew their own beer – Oz Clark and Rory McGrath came here on their TV program.

The Barn at Beal. Sympathetically converted farm buildings have made a fine eating place with lovely views of Holy Island. Seasonal food with an emphasis on local produce. A good stopping point while waiting for the tides on Holy island, it is a mile before the causeway .
